Training – Designing Electrical Systems for Machines in Accordance with EN 60204-1

Training Objective

Most industrial machines are electrically powered. Machine manufacturers must employ competent personnel who can design electrical systems for machines along with machine safety systems.

The goal of this training is to provide participants with knowledge on designing machine electrical systems in accordance with the requirements of EN 60204-1 Safety of machinery — Electrical equipment of machines — Part 1: General requirements.

Target Group

This training is intended for individuals who professionally design machine electrical systems or machine safety systems, design department managers, or those who verify machines for compliance with technical standards.

Training Topics

  • Introduction to machine electrical safety
  • Sources of electrical energy – hazards caused by power supply systems
  • Basic concepts from EN 60204-1
  • Methods for protecting machines against direct contact
  • Methods for protecting machines against indirect contact
  • Machine power supply connection
  • Wiring of electrical cabinets
  • Control functions and devices
  • Operator interface
  • Marking of electrical cabinets
  • Inspection and testing of machine electrical systems

The training is based on the requirements of the following legal regulations and harmonized standards:

  • EU Machinery Regulation 2023/1230
  • Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC
  • EN ISO 12100 – Safety of machinery — General principles for design — Risk assessment and risk reduction
  • EN 60204-1 – Safety of machinery — Electrical equipment of machines — Part 1: General requirements
  • EN ISO 13849-1 – Safety of machinery — Safety-related parts of control systems — Part 1: General principles for design
  • EN ISO 13849-2 – Safety of machinery — Safety-related parts of control systems — Part 2: Validation
